2018-2019: Episode 7

Hello WHS community!

We have had so much going on these past two weeks at WHS that there is almost too much to share!

A special shout out to our PFA for organizing a college interview skills workshop for our juniors and seniors during last WIN Block. We had interviewers from the Naval Academy, Bowdoin and Tufts. And there was a great turnout of students for this new offering! This was a great community collaborative events. Thank you PFA!

As you may have heard, we did have an actual fire related event last Friday. The cause was an honest mistake by a group of students who were defrosting bread in a microwave. The good news is that our staff and student body really stepped up and evacuated appropriately. The response by the WFD was ultra fast and all told we were back in class in under 15 minutes!

WHS students wore green to highlight the need for more research for children who suffer from Kabuki Syndrome:

WHS students were “speed dating”, but in character as a famous Progressive Era Reformers, in Ms. Costas’ American History class! They were a very energetic and enthusiastic bunch to say the least as they were totally engaged and invested in their characters! Lots of great costumes!

We had our first “official” musical performance last Thursday. The annual Autumn Winds concert was fantastic. Our students, many of them freshman, sounded amazing and already shaping into mid-season form! A big congratulations to Mrs. and Mr. Costello for their tireless efforts with working with our aspiring musicians. If you have never taken in a show please make the effort. Most shows a usually about an hour long and very very enjoyable!

Class of ’22’s Henry Wilson, Sam McDonald and Tommy Casey have a great goal for the week! After another  championship why not pay the good vibes forward and do something nice for other people! Great job gentlemen!

Student WINspiration: A favorite quote and thought submission from Daniel Kuang ‘19: “Just as eating contrary to the inclination is injurious to the health, so study without desire spoils the memory, and it retains nothing that it takes in” – L. Da Vinci.

From Daniel: “I find this inspirational because it shows that you must be open and want to study new ideas in order to reap the rewards of said studies. Reminds us students that only half of the battle is going to school, the other half is to want to be here.”
