Welcome to back the Team WHS Blog!

Hello!  Welcome and welcome back to the Team WHS blog!

Season 2: Episode 1

We have successfully completed our first few days of the 2016-2017 school year, and while there are still plenty of issues to iron out, our phone situation being the most significant, we can say that the year is off and running in a positive direction.

Our students were warmly and enthusiastically greeted by our staff as they entered school on a gray and rainy first day.  I continue to be impressed by how much individual care and attention our staff pays to each of our students.

Our teachers and staff gather in the rain on day one to greet our students.

Over the first three days of school we met separately with every grade in our auditorium to introduce new staff members (myself included) and set our expectations for the year.  In our conversations with the students, we discussed that they should have expectations of their administration and that we have expectations of them.  We talked about setting goals, leadership opportunities for all, finding our passions in life, having a growth mindset and always having a “yes I can” positive attitude.  We introduced new offerings, like yoga, meditation and Crossfit, that we are trying to build for our students to help reduce and cope with any stress that they may encounter.  And we talked about coming together to help each other, being kind to each other and always asking for help when they are in need.

We recognize that plenty of our students are still working their way through their schedules and finding better routes to and from their classes.  Getting lost or turned around in our building(s) will happen for a little while longer and that is totally acceptable.  Truthfully, I have only been in the building for a few days longer than our students, and I still get turned around from time to time.

Our construction continues to create new and interesting issues and challenges.  We have learned to expect the unexpected.  We will continue to encounter problems, we will solve them and we will move forward.

We can happily report that our phone issues are very close to being fully resolved at this time.

Our website is currently under construction and will be live shortly.  Our website will be a good place for any information you need.  Our student handbook, program of studies, staff contact information and much more will be available there for your use.

Our annual Back to School night will be coming up next week, September 22nd at 7PM.  We will provide more information about this night and how we plan to introduce our student information management system, Aspen, very soon.

Next week we will continue to use this space to keep you up to date with all the comings and goings at WHS as well as introduce you to our newest staff members.

We are looking forward to our first full week of school as we begin to settle into the school year!

With respect,

Dennis Mahoney
