Dear WHS Community,

I hope that you were able to enjoy the long holiday weekend.  I am always touched this weekend and love to read anything about Martin Luther King, Jr.  There are so many wonderful quotes that apply to our world and our work today.  I especially like a quote of his that I tweeted out this weekend, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and critically.  Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education.”  I believe in that message and am inspired by his work today and every day.

Monday Updates:

  1. Thank you to the League of Women Voters and our own Student Council who coordinated our VERY successful Voter Registration Day at WHS last week.  We don’t have final numbers of newly registered voters, but  we do know that we more than exceeded our goal of 100 voters!
  2. One of our Leadership Team members, Greg Rosenthal, Special Education Supervisor has resigned and is working in another district.  As a result, Pam Girouard and I have been interviewing potential Interim Candidates that could serve in that role for the remainder of the year. We hope to announce the Interim Candidate soon and will re-post the permanent position this spring.

Monday Shout Outs:

  1. Congratulations to our Orchestras who performed at last week’s Winter Concert.  It was a great night to appreciate the arts.  A special thank you to our Friends of Music who coordinated the sound equipment to help everyone enjoy the music.  Thank you one and all!
  2. Thank you to our Guidance Department, led by Suzanne Ontso who organized a great workshop on interpreting the PSAT exams.  The powerpoint shared can be found at:  http://www.edline.net/files/_MPHOn_/5009355ab73378753745a49013852ec4/Winchester__PSAT_Workshop_1.14.16.pdf
