Monday Memo #14 12/14/15 REPOSTED

Dear WHS Community,

I must admit this is my favorite time of the year.  It is so great to have time to connect and appreciate each other.  A very special thank you to the Winchester High School Parent Faculty Association and all of our families for the wonderful brunch that was celebrated last week.  All the foods and the wonderful raffles were extremely well received by our appreciative staff.  As someone who has grown up celebrating Christmas, I also revel in the sounds and lights that seem to be everywhere this time of year.  This weekend I was lucky start a new and special holiday tradition with a visit to Boston’s Faneuil Hall’s Blink.  This display combines lights that syncopate with holiday music from the Boston Pops.  You may want to check it out as it runs through January 3rd if you wish to include a trip into the city.  I hope that you are enjoying this unseasonable weather and are able to enjoy your own favorite outdoor activities.

Monday Updates:

  1. This message is from Sharon Martin about our upcoming Spring Musical:

Attention all Red Sox fans:  “Damn Yankees!” will be coming to WHS as this Spring’s Musical, directed by Sharon Martin.  All actors, dancers and singers are encouraged to audition!  Acting and dancing auditions will be held this Wednesday, December 16th.  As of now they will be held in Ms. Martin’s room immediately after school.  If a better location becomes available, it will be announced.  Singing auditions will take place Monday, December 21st.  Please fill out the audition form prior to Wednesday, if possible.  Selected readings are posted on form as well!  Audition form:

  1. Once again this year, WHS will be participating in WHS Gives Back.  HELP!  We are so close to reaching our total from last year.  We currently have a little over $7,000.  Our collection ends today!  Any donation will do – nothing is too small.  We accept cash, coins and checks.  Please help us come together as a school and make a difference. Help us #FILL FROSTY!  If you have any donations, please give them to your teacher now.  Thank you.  Last year, we were able to raise funds to help local families with gifts for the holiday season.  We are looking to collect money in homerooms from now until next week.  Thank you in advance for your donations.

  1. This was sent out by Ms. Ontso through Naviance:  College Board will not be sending out letters about PSAT Student Scores.  Students who took part of the October test will find their scores by logging into their CB account starting on Jan. 7.  We will have a presentation explaining scores on January 14th at 7:00 pm in the Learning Commons

  1. Thank you to members of our Student Council who presented at the Parent/Faculty Meeting last week.  Chris Kuang, Liz Andrews, Kirk Ahoronian, and Mia Carazza represented our students so well.  In addition, thank you to our Food and Consumer students who have been baking delicious treats for these meetings.
